June 8th and 9th – Days 6 and 7 – Joliet, IL to Joliet, IL 1 mile – Total miles 339
Weather sunny, 70, windy and overcast, stormy

Day 6 & 7 have been spent in Joliet, IL It has been nice to get a break and catch up a bit on everything. On June 8th after getting our bicycle to the local bike shop for repairs we took Uber (for the first time) to downtown Joliet.

The downtown area is really nice but like many downtown areas is struggling, although I would say they are definitely on the upswing. They have a lot of the major infrastructure items in place – smaller roadways, sidewalks, public art and amenities. Now they just need to entice business to come back, while walking thru downtown I over heard an employee from the local economic development talking with a potential developer. She was explaining that they had tax credits for new businesses locating in the downtown area and renovating an existing building.

We checked out the Route 66 Welcome Center and Joliet Historical Museum, Rialto Theater and had lunch at a nice local pub – Chicago Street Pub. The Farmers Market was also open and we were able to pickup dinner. We then took Uber back to our hotel for the evening.

Today we are hanging at the hotel and completing all there necessary items to get back on the bike – (laundry, social media, packing etc.). It will prove to be a relaxing day.

Plans are to pick up the repaired bicycle tomorrow mid day and continue on our trip. We are excited to get back on the bike and rolling again. Although it is suppose to be hot – oh well it will prepare us for the desert weather out west!!

More to come.
